ABSORBENT GLASS MAT - AGM - SOLAR BATTERY CONSTRUCTIONABSORBENT GLASS MAT, AGM BATTERY CONSTRUCTION
GRID MATERIALS - The negative grid of an AGM battery is lead calcium. The positive is a special, proprietary lead calcium with other alloys added for excellent cycling capability. Batteries with standard lead calcium plates cycle poorly.
PLATE THICKNESS - The Sun Xtender® Series uses a 0.105" thick positive while other VRLA manufacturers use a positive thickness of 0.050" to 0.080". The thicker positive provides longer life deep cycle battery.
PASTE DENSITY - The oxides used in the grid pasting process of AGM Batteries are much denser than others. With time and use, the active material [paste] will tend to “slough” off the grid depleting capacity. With the denser material “sloughing” off is significantly reduced. Additionally, the AGM battery plate is wrapped with the glass mat material and polyethylene microporous envelope. It is then compressed in the cell container to further reduce the loss of active material.
AGM MATERIAL - Concorde uses a glass mat for Sun Xtender® Series solar energy batteries that is thicker than others. Commercially available materials do not meet our requirements. Concorde’s glass mat is made to specification. The mat has better wicking characteristics to absorb and retain electrolyte. The glass mat is wrapped around the plate to insure complete coverage.
POLYETHYLENE ENVELOPE - This microporous material is wrapped around the glass-matted plate and then sealed along the sides to insure shorted plates are eliminated. Shorting can occur due to rough handling, shock and vibration. In addition, as a lead acid battery ages the positive plate grows, dendrites form and shorts can occur around the edges of the positive and negative plates. The polyethylene envelope prevents this from occurring in our solar energy battery.
INTERCELL CONNECTIONS - Concorde employs large area, “over-the-partition” intercell connections which increase the strength of the intercell weld. It reduces the possibility of open welds and provides a low resistance interconnection path. Others use “through-the-partition” spot welded construction. The intercell weld in this construction is a weak point because of the small cross section area and the physical difficulty of making satisfactory weld and leak-proof construction.
COVER-TO-CONTAINER SEAL – Our AGM batteries use an epoxied tongue and groove seal between the cover and container. Most other manufacturers heat seal their cover to container. The epoxied tongue and groove is a far stronger seal and will not separate in high or low temperature extreme applications.
COPPER ALLOY TERMINALS - All Sun Xtender® solar energy batteries employ silicon bronze terminals providing an improved low resistance electrical connection [copper-to-copper]. The silicon bronze terminals are non-corrosive. Additionally, the copper alloy terminals offer increased environmental protection and personal safety - No Exposed Lead.
RECESSED TERMINALS - The terminals on most of the solar energy batteries are recessed below the top of the battery cover. This prevents short circuiting across the battery terminals.
WIDE TEMPERATURE RANGE - Operational from –40°C [-40°F] to 72°C [160°F] without special metal banding other manufacturers require. Other manufacturers limit their maximum operating temperatures for a deep cycle battery to 50 or 60°C. [122 or 140°F.].
SEALED, VALVE REGULATED, MAINTENANCE FREE - Never requires water additions. System maintenance, measurement of charging voltage, periodically checking terminal connections, etc., are required for proper system performance. This is a maintenance free solar energy battery.
HIGH IMPACT, REINFORCED CONTAINER & COVER - Reinforced Copolymer Polypropylene container and cover reduce bulging even at high temperatures and under severe overcharge.
VIBRATION & SHOCK TOLERANT - Our military aircraft batteries must be capable of accepting the vibration and shock impact of an aircraft landing on the deck of a carrier. All of our AGM batteries are designed to provide high shock and vibration acceptance.
2, 6 & 12 VOLT CONFIGURATIONS - Offers more flexibility, choices and capacities in your solar energy system design. Our Sun Xtender® Series batteries cover a range of approximately 30 to 750 AH.
